About Us:
we are predominantly a fellrunning club based in and around horsforth and otley chevin (North West Leeds). members can also be found competing in cross country, trail races, ultras, parkruns and the occasional road race. We train off road and generally on Otley Chevin in the summer, while in the winter we train either from Horsforth mostly on roads or on otley chevin and other off-road areas with headtorches.

seasons greetings and seasonal races
A Merry Christmas to all club members, families, friends and all others who may be reading this. While club training does not resume until 8 January (with the latest winter time trial) many members will be out at some of the seasonal races, including both the Stoop fell race (Santa hats compulsory) and Auld Lang Syne fell race (fancy dress for some), both on the Haworth Moors from Penistone Hill, and both in the Runner of the Year series, there is also, of course, the Chevin Chase on Boxing Day where some members will be joining the masses in this local classic.

PECO XC 2024/25 Race 3 - Middleton Park 15 December 2024 Due to other commitments, along with seasonal lurgies, once again only six Fellandalers toed the line at the latest PECO XC race over the familiar terrain of Middleton Park and Woods. For the ladies, Tanya Shepherd finished 153rd, Naomi Kingston 169th and Dianne Addison 250th out of 300 finishers. For the men, Steven Boocock finished 220th, Ben Goodacre 305th and Neil Wallace 381st out of a field of 414. Full results here

PECO XC 2024/25 Race 2 - Pontefract Park 1 December 2024 Just six club members made the trip east to the relative flatlands of Pontefract for the second in this season’s PECO XC races over a short grass course (made even shorter due to a marshaling error meaning total distance was only about 3.4 miles). Tanya Shepherd led the ladies home in 97th position, closely followed by Kat Fisk (103rd), with Dianne Addison enjoying herself as always in 252nd out of a field of 318. For the men, running with the ladies on this occasion, Robert Blemings finished 197th, Ben Goodacre 303rd and Neil Wallace 374th in a big field of 442 finishers. Full results here
Mytholmroyd Fell Race - 1 December 2024 Louise O’Brien and Steven Boocock had good runs at this Calder Valley classic which also incorporated the Yorkshire Vets Athletic Association fell championship 2024. Louise finished an excellent 3rd in her age category in the YVAA champs (95th overall) while Steven finished 61st overall and just inside the top 20 in his age category which was packed with quality runners. Report from ROTY Co-ordinator, Christine Addison: ROTY update, there has been a change in the leaders with Ed Smith first man followed by Sean McQuinn and Chris Small, Alex Jones and Neil Barton are not far behind and if Paul Heeley gets a long race (only Rombalds Stride left) in he’d overtake everyone. Louise O Brien is leading the women with Tanya Shepherd in second, while Sarah Glover will also need to do Rombalds Stride to get a trophy. Next up are two races in quick succession from Penistone Hill Country Park above Haworth, The Stoop on 22 December followed by our favourite fancy dress Auld Lang Syne on New year’s Eve, (for this one members don’t have to wear the club vest for if in fancy dress). PECO XC 2024/25 Race 1 - Temple Newsam 17 November 2024 A total of 10 club members took part in the first PECO XC race of the season taking in the delights of the Temple Newsam parkland and woodland, including the infamous water feature ‘the bog of stench’ over an approx 4.15 miles/540ft course. The guys were off first, with the four Fellandalers all making their club PECO debuts. Robert Blemings was first club man home, followed by Steven Boocock, Ben Goodacre and Neil Wallace. For the ladies, starting 10 minutes after the men. Tanya Shepherd led the way, followed by debutant Sophie Clark, Marion Muir, Sarah Glover, Naomi Kingston (making a welcome return) and Dianne Addison. Harriers v Cyclists Fell Race 16 November 2024 Marion Muir made the short journey from her new home to take part in this unique 5.3 miles/945ft race which pits runners and cyclo-cross / MTB riders on a mostly out and back from just above the Leeds-Liverpool Canal near Bingley, over Shipley Glen to Baildon Moor trigpoint. Running, not cycling, Marion finished in a time of 59:09. Full results here
Tour of Pendle Fell Race 16 November 2024 There was a good turnout of Fellandalers at this classic long race (16.8 miles/4833ft, with some great performances from both experienced ToP-ers and first timers, all conquering Pendle’s Big End and Geronimo among other highlights. Alex Jones was first club member home, cracking the 3 hour barrier, followed by Sean McQuinn, Rhianna Fielden, Ed Smith, Louise O’Brien and Neil Barton. Special mention also to prospective member (he may have even joined by now!) Fergus Greig, finishing not far behind Louise. Full results here

The Fellandale Mark Saville Winter Handicap Trophy - race 1
The first of the four monthly winter handicap time trial races took place last night, 6 November. Full results from the 2.9 miles road loop are still awaited, but early news is that brand new member Ben Goodacre won the race (a big handicap coming up for you next month Ben!). As always big thanks to Dave Hickman for compiling the handicaps and, along with Debi Nicholson, doing the timing on the night.

Shepherd;s Skyline Fell Race 2 November 2024 Three club members completed this year’s Shepherd’s Skyline race, an ever popular Autumn race of approx 10km/350 metres from the Shepherd’s Rest pub up above Todmorden to Stoodley Pike, returning via the steep descent from the Pike followed by a cheeky stiff climb back up to the Pennine Way before the final long fast descent to the finish. Paul Heeley was first club finisher in an excellent 23rd overall (6th M40) in 53:36, followed by Kat Fisk 126th (12th F40) in 1:11:57, and Louise O’Brien 138th (an excellent 2nd F50) in 1:14:53. british fell and hill relay champs 2024
This year’s Fell Relay Champs took place last Saturday, 19 October in and around Appletreewick and taking in the delights of Burnsall Fell, Simon’s Seat, Trollers Gill and much more besides. The club had teams in both the men’s and women’s open race and, as always, put in some great performances on a glorious Autumn day. Running agaisnt the cream of British fell running the men’s team (Ed Smith. Paul Heeley / Alex Jones, Sean McQuinn / Robert Blemings, Jordan Waters) finished in the top half of the field in 72nd place (41st men’s open), while the ladies (Steph Solomon, Louise O’Brien / Marion Muir, Sarah Glover / Alison Wilson, Rhianna Fielden) finished 131st overall and 29th women’s open. Last Saturday (5 October) saw this year’s Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay take place, and once again the club’s mixed team put in a great performance, finishing 8th mixed team and 54th overall in the 4 leg pairs event. The team consisted of Kat Fisk/Caroline Thomas, Jordan Waters/Alex Jones, Tanya Shepherd/Rhianna Fielden and Paul Heeley/Robert Blemings. Full results here. Meanwhile, elsewhere, Steven Boocock ran at the Castle C’alf fell race organised by Calder Valley Fell Runners on 6 October, finishing well inside the first third of the field in 37th place - full results here. Also on Sunday 6 October, and away from the fells, there was double success for Louise O’Brien, finishing 3rd F50 in both the final race of the YVAA Grand Prix series (over in the ‘flatlands’ of Ackworth and Fitzwilliam Country Park) and in the overall series standings. Alissa Howroyd was not far off the podium, finishing an excellent 4th F45 on the day and 6th in the overall series standings. Peris Horseshoe Race - Snowdonia 21 September 2024 Alex Jones joined some of Britain’s elite fell/mountain runners in this tough Welsh classic (17.5 miles/8530ft) which was a British Championship race and included Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) among the summit checkpoints. Despite a fall on one descent Alex finished just outside the top 100 (of over 200 starters) in a time of 4:40:59. Full results here.
Rombalds Romp Fell Race - Ilkley 21 September 2024 There was a good turn-out of six Fellandalers at this local race organised by North Leeds Fell Runners and taking in 8.1 miles/1214ft of Ilkley/Rombalds Moor, including the trigpoint. Once again there were some great performances, with four finishers in the top 20 (top 19 to be pedantic!) in a field of 85 finishers, led home by Jordan Waters in 6th place and followed by Paul Heeley (12th), Robert Blemings (15th), Danny Hopley (19th), Ed Smith (43rd) and Sarah Glover (65th). It has been a quiet period recently as far as racing is concerned, however that has not stopped Louise O’Brien doing well in two contrasting race, the penultimate YVAA Grand Prix race at Queensbury on 8 September where she finished an excellent 3rd FV50 - full results here, followed less than a week later by completing the Three Shires Fell Race up in the Lake District in predominantly poor weather conditions - full Three Shires results here. Meanwhile, running on ‘home turf’ Steven Boocock finsihed an excellent 3rd in his age category at the Pudsey 10km, a hilly multiterrain race on 15 September - full results here.

Club members have been out at various races over, and since, the August Bank Holiday weekend, with the very short and steep Burnsall Classic Fell Race on 24 August taking pride of place with 6 club members racing for our Burnsall trophies - Paul Heeley just pipped Alex Jones to be first Fellandaler home, with Ed Smith not too far behind, while Tanya Shepherd won the ladies trophy, followed home by Sarah Glover and Kat Fisk. Elsewhere, Steven Boocock had a good run at the (not quite a fell race) Denby Dash from Upper Denby between Holmfirth and Barnsley on Bank Holiday Monday (26 August), finishing well up the field in his age category-results here. Tanya was back in the Dales for the even shorter and steeper Kilnsey Show Fell Race on Tuesday 27 August, finishing an excellent 5th female - results here. Moving on to the very end of August, and Jordan Waters put in another good performance in finishing 10th in the Blackshaw Head Fete Fell Race, high up above the Calder Valley - results here. Also on 31 August, Caroline Thomas finished 2nd in her age category in the Heights ‘Ultra’ Trail Festival (races from 10km to 50 miles) ‘Wessenden’ 27km race from Linthwaite in the Colne Valley - results here. Crowden Horseshoe Fell Race - 18 August 2024 On a quiet weekend for races, Sean McQuinn and Paul Heeley made the trip over to Crowden for this latest ROTY race, taking in Laddow Rocks and Black Hill along with sections of the Pennine Way in its 8 miles/1699 ft route. Both Sean and Paul finished well within the top 30 in a field of over 150. Full results through this link

YVAA Grand Prix 2024 Race 8 - Slaithwaite 11 August 2024 Louise O’Brien, Alissa Howroyd and Martin Gebbett all made the trip over to ‘Slawit’ for this hilly multiterrain race held in increasingly warm conditions and going form the start at the cricket club up to Wholestone Moor summit and back via a mixture of road, trail (some of it single-track), field paths and woodland. Louise and Alissa were once again well up in their respective age categories while Martin is priding himself on managing to run the whole of the steep uphill road mile soon after the start. Arncliffe Gala (BOFRA) Fell Race - 10 August 2024 Steven Boocock ran the ‘double-header’ of the Littondale 4 mile road race followed by this short and steep fell race held in conjunction with Arncliffe Gala. Steven was well inside the first half of the field in the fell race (67th in 17:14) having earlier finished the road race in 29:16. Fell race results here Road race results here
Kings Challenge Fell Race - Silsden 8 August 2024 Danny Hopley made the trip over to Silsden for this cat BS evening race (6 miles/1181ft) from Silsden park, up to Addingham High Moor/Long Ridge End trigpoint and back. Danny finished in 32nd place in 53:33. Full results here

Holme Moss Fell Race - 28 July 2024 Well done to Alex Jones who conquered the terrain and the heat to finish in 10th place (3hrs:30:37) in this classic long race taking in 17.8 miles/4216ft of the northernmost part of the Peak District, including Laddow Rocks and Black Hill. Full results here
James Herriot Run Fell Race - Castle Bolton 28 July 2024 Wendy Critchley ventured up to Wensleydale for this Cat CM (8.7 miles/1007ft) race, finishing in a mid-table position of 125th in a time of 91:03. Full results here.

Cracoe Fell Race - 21 July2024 Despite this being a ROTY counter only two club members ran this short, steep BOFRA race of just 2.6 miles but with 900ft of ascent. U23 runner Danny Hopley (in his second race in two days) finished in 25th place in 29:44, while the ‘slightly more mature’ Christine Addison finished 68th overall in 39:36. Full results here.
Pete Bland Kentmere Horseshoe Fell Race - 21 July 2024 Three Fellandalers ventured to the south east Lake District to take on this 12.3 miles/3300ft classic route. Alex Jones finished in 1:56:31, Paul Heeley in 1:58:15 and Rhianna Fielden in 2:16:14. As the results show, all three were well up in their respective categories, with Rhianna 11th lady overall (8th in category), while the splits from last checkpoint to the finish show both Alex’s and Paul’s descending prowess. YVAA Grand Prix Race 7 - Stainland - 21 July 2024 Due to other commitments/holidays etc, Louise O’Brien was the club’s only runner at this latest multiterrain YVAA race, taking in the usual mix of woodland, trail, field paths and a small amount of tarmac in a hilly 5.3 mile route with almost 900ft of ascent. Results are still to be published on the YVAA website, but the provisional results shared from the YVAA Facebook page show that Louise finished an excellent 4th in her category.
Rougemont Chase - Weeton Show - 21 July 2024 Sarah Glover was persuaded by her brother to run this 4.7 miles multiterrain race held as part of the Weeton Show, and in a small field of just 25 runners, Sarah successfully won the LV40 prize, finishing in a time of 44:04. Results here
DalesRunner 30km - Muker, Swaledale - 20 July 2024 Kat Fisk headed up to gorgeous Swaledale for this tough, long race (actually 31km/19.7 miles with 3000ft of ascent). In increasingly warm and humid conditions, Kat finished in a more than respectable 4:14:43. Full results here
Snowdon Mountain Race 2024 - 20 July 2024 Neil Barton took on this classic out and back race of approx 9.5 miles / 3140ft Llanberis to Snowdon’s (Yr Wyddfa’s) summit, a race that includes an international competition between the home countries, Italy and others. Whilst not quite mixing it with those elite teams, Neil still finished in a respectable 2:04:06. Full results here
Ingleborough Mountain Race - 20 July 2024 In the latest ‘one that nearly got away due to wrong club in results!’ Danny Hopley (showing as Horsforth Harriers) completed this out and back from Ingleton to Ingleborough summit, finishing well inside the top third of the field in 1:07:51. Results here
Golden Acre Relay - 16 July 2024 After a day of heavy rain which left the route more suited to PECO XC races than a summer evening relay, four club teams took part in this fun short evening relay, with two men’s teams - Ed Smith/Alex Jones/Paul Heeley and Neil Barton/Neil Wallace/Robert Blemings and two ladies teams - Steph Solomon (definitely her last race before moving up to Dundee)/Kat Fisk/Rhianna Fielden and Marion Muir/Dianne Addison/Sarah Glover all putting in good runs in the conditions. New Embsay Fell Race - 13 July 2024 There was a brilliant turn-out of 10 club members at this short ROTY race on an out and back route from the village to Embsay Crag. there was equally brilliant running with three podium positions - Paul Heeley 2nd and Sean McQuinn 3rd in the overall race, along with Steph Solomon 3rd lady in the first part of her ‘farewell tour’ before moving up to Dundee later this month. Also running were Robert Blemings, Ed Smith, Neil Barton, Marion Muir, Kat Fisk, Sarah Glover and Christine Addison. Results here.
Baildon Canter Fell Race - 13 July 2024 Steven Boocock finished 2nd v55 in this short sharp race from Baildon Rugby Club to the top of Baildon Moor and back. Full results on this page
Beamsley Beacon Fell Race - 11 July 2024 No results seen yet but Chris Small and Robert Blemings (and maybe others) ran in this Thursday night race from Addingham up to BB and back.
Heptonstall Festival Fell Race - 6 July 2024 Louise O’Brien and Caroline Thomas had a run out at this short 5.9 miles/1627ft cat A race, running together for most part and finishing in around 79 mins. Full results here

The club hosted another highly successful Danefield Relay on Tuesday evening (2 July) with 135 teams competing and all successfully completing the 3 miles/558ft route taking in the best of Chevin Forest / Danefield. Results are now available on the Danefield Relay page on this website.

Cross Fell Race - 30 June 2024 Despite this being a ROTY race, Chris Small was the only member to make the long drive to do this long out and back slog (14.9 miles/2231ft) from Garrigill up to the highest point in England outside of the Lake District. In a very small field of just 22 runners Chris completed the race in 2:28:01 (14th position). Full results here.
YVAA Grand Prix 2024 Race 5 - Post Hill - 30 June 2024 Steven Boocock, Louise O’Brien and Martin Gebbett all took part in this race. which in some ways is on ‘home turf’ for all three of them, over a two lap 4.7 miles / 500ft course in much better conditions than the recent Post Hill relays. Great Lakes Fell Race - 29 June 2024 Showing amazing powers of recovery after last week’s race, Tanya Shepherd was once again running a classic long Lakes race, this time a mere 13 miles/7000ft toughie taking in Bowfell, Great End, Scafell Pike and Scafell among others. Darren Holloway Memorial Buttermere Horseshoe - 22 June 2024 Tanya Shepherd (who else!) successfully completed this modern classic hardcore race taking in an almost 23 miles and 9400ft circuit of the Buttermere fells. Despite going over on her ankle at one stage, Tanya finished the race well up the overall field and 7th lady overall in 6hrs 19mins. Full results here
Summer Wine Trails Series 2024 - School Run Trail Race - Digley Reservoir - 22 June 2024 Sophie Clark took part in this hilly (5.62 miles/900ft approx) race on the hills between Holmfirth and Holme Moss. YVAA Grand Prix 2024 Race 4 - Middleton Woods - 19 June 2024 Alissa Howroyd and Martin Gebbett took part in this latest YVAA GP race on a hilly 2-lap course, and held in glorious sunshine (such a contrast to the previous night). Alissa again finished well up in her category, while Martin improved on his run from last week. Full results here.
Post Hill Relay - 18 June 2024 The club had great success in this 3-person relay over a 2.3 miles/260ft (approx) route in very wet and muddy conditions after earlier flash-flooding so kudos to the organisers Pudsey Pacers in ensuring the race went ahead. In a small field of 26 teams we had first mixed (5th overall) - Jordan Waters, Rhianna Fielden and Paul Heeley; first ladies vets (over 35) - Kat Fisk, Alissa Howroyd and Tanya Shepherd, and second mixed team - Ed Smith, Sophie Clark and Robert Blemings. Rhianna was also second fastest lady and Jordan 8th fastest overall. Full results here.
Settle Hills Race - 16 June 2024 With this being the latest race in the club’s Runner of the Year (ROTY) competition there was a good turn-out of 8 Fellandalers taking on this 7 miles/1969ft race taking in the hills to the east/northeast of Settle. Paul Heeley led the club contingent home, followed by Ed Smith (as Horsforth Harriers in results!), Chris Small, Robert Blemings (as Honiton RC in results!), Steph Solomon, Neil Barton, Louise O’Brien and Christine Addison. Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix Race 3 - Morley 11 June 2024 Louise O’Brien (5th LV50 despite still having Howtown in her legs) and Alissa Howroyd (10th LV45) both put in good performances at this new YVAA GP race taking in a mix of field and technical single track woodland paths, as well as a great puddle to run through. Martin Gebbett, still trying to get back to some level of fitness after health issues over Autumn and Winter, also ran, managing to find some semblance of speed only in the final half mile or so! Howtown Fell Race - 9 June 2024 There was another category win for Christine Addison, running with Louise O’Brien, at this low-key 13.3 miles/4593ft race in the eastern Lake District. Full results to follow
Pete Shields Ilkley 10km - 9 June 2024 Wendy Critchley took part in this local, flattish. 10km held in memory of former Ilkley Harrier Pete Shields. Wendy finished in 54:10. Full results here
Ennerdale Horseshoe Fell Race - 8 June 2024 Tanya Shepherd was accompanied at this year’s Ennerdale race by Jordan Waters and Sean McQuinn, with all three having good runs in this hardcore long classic of 23 miles/7500ft taking in Green Gable, Kirk Fell and Pillar among other summits. Jordan finished in 5:27:21. Tanya in 5:50:06 and Sean (having left his food back at base) in 6:04;42. Full results here

Otley Chevin Fell Race - 5 June 2024 There was a brilliant turn-out of 15 club members for this short and steep race from Otley to top of Chevin via the steps before the rocky path and Johnny Lane descent. Pride of place goes to our two club trophy winners Jordan Waters (12th overall) and Rhianna Fielden, and even more so to race category winners Christine Addison (LV60) just two days after her big birthday and 10 years after she won the LV50 on her birthday, and Paul Heeley (MV45). Also out enjoying the cool conditions were Danny Hopley, Sean McQuinn, Robert Blemings, Ed Smith, Chris Small, Tanya Shepherd, Louise O’Brien, Neil Barton, Sarah Glover, Alissa Howroyd and Dianne Addison. Weekend races - 1 June 2024 Members ran in three separate events on Saturday, with position prizes for both Will Purdy (3rd overall in the 23km Super Trail event) and Martin Gebbett (1st MV60 in the 13km Sprint Trail event) taking part in the Great Owl Running organised North Leeds Skyline from Otley - there was also an Ultra option. - full results here. Meanwhile up in Wharfedale Rhianna Fielden had an excellent run to finish 5th lady in the Wharfedale Trail Half Marathon - results here. Yorkshire Vets AA Grand Prix 2024 - Race 2 Kirkstall - 28 May 2024 Six members took part in this second race of the YVAA GP 2024, a c6.9 mile race starting from Kirkstall Abbey and taking in the ‘delights’ of the Kirkstall Forge wall (!) and Newlay Bridge before a muddy loop of Bramley Fall Woods and return. Neil Wallace led the club contingent home in 134th, closely followed by Louise O’Brien (141st), Alissa Howroyd (186th), Wendy Critchley (206th), Martin Gebbett (making a welcome return to racing after a period of health issues - 231st) and Dianne Addison (279th). All of the ladies were also well up in their age categories. Full results here
Austwick Amble Fell Race - 27 May 2024 New recruit Steven Boocock accompanied his ‘speedy’ son (Mitchell of P&B) to this traditional late May Bank Holiday fell race (8.1 miles/1198ft) on a route that includes the delights of Sulber Nick (as encountered by tired legs in the last 3 miles of the Three Peaks race). Steven finished in 41st place (8th MV50). Full results here
Isle of Jura Fell Race - 25 May 2024 Tanya Shepherd (who else?!) made the trip up to complete this hardcore (28km/2130metres)classic in a time of just over 6 hours, this despite having suffered from food poisoning just before the race. Full results here
Kildwick Fell Race - 23 May 2024 Danny Hopley made the relatively short trip to Kildwick for this short Thursday evening race, finishing an excellent 18th, just about 4 minutes behind the race winner. Full results here

Calderdale Way Relay - 19 May 2024 The club had a mixed team in this years CWR, putting in a sterling performance in warm conditions despite some navigation errors on at least one leg (no names/no pack drill!) Cookridge Community Run 10km trail race - 19 May 2024 Ed Smith once again ran this local race just a stones throw from home. completing the race, which goes from Cookridge via Paul’s Pond to a loop of Golden Acre Park and return, in 46:58. Full results here
Old County Tops Fell Race - Lake District - 18 May 2024 Showing the recent growth of the club in terms of competitive runners we had 3 teams complete this classic ultra fell race taking in the summits of Helvellyn, Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man in its 37 miles/10,000ft route. On another increasingly warm day all three teams put in good showings with James Wynne and (2nd claimer) Tom Lynch finishing an excellent 11th overall, followed by Alex Jones and Paul Heeley (particularly suffering in the conditions) 51st and Jordan Waters and Sean McQuinn 66th out of 93 finishers in a race where 30 teams dropped out primarily due to the conditions. Hathersage Hurtle - 18 May 2024 Marion Muir took part in this 20 mile/2800ft challenge walk and run taking in the highlights of the Hathersage area, including Stanage Edge and Padley Gorge. Marion finished in 115th place in a time of just over 3hrs 47 mins. Full results here

Jack Bloor Fell Race - Ilkley 14 May 2024 Seven club members took part in this year’s Jack Bloor, taking in six checkpoints on Ilkley Moor. Danny Hopley lead the club contingent home, followed by Rhianna Fielden, Ed Smith. Chris Small. Steven Boocock (in results under his previous club), Steph Solomon and Sarah Glover. Rhianna, Steph and Sarah also finished 2nd ladies team. Full results here
Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon - 12 May 2024 Emma Lavelle-Wood, Will Purdy and Dean Hird all took to the roads of north Leeds and Otley for this year’s Leeds Marathon, successfully completing the race despite the hill at 18 miles and the increasingly warm conditions.
Fairfield Horseshoe Fell Race - Lake District 11 May 2024 Jordan Waters had an excellent run in his first Lakeland fell race, finishing 20th on this classic route from Rydal Hall. Full results here
Pendle Cloughs Fell Race - Downham 11 May 2024 Tanya Shepherd was again the club’s only runner at this latest English Championships race, taking in 14 miles/4100ft over and around Pendle Hill. Tanya was ‘taking it easy’ with various niggles but still had a good day out in the hot conditions. Full results here.

Lothersdale Fell Race - 8 May 2024 There was an amazing turn-out of 12 club members at this low-key evening race on an out and back route to Pinhaw Beacon. In a field of just 64 runners the club had five runners in the first 15 and Tanya Shepherd winning the ladies race. Club runners in finishing order were: Alex Jones, Jordan Waters, Paul Heeley, Sean McQuinn, Danny Hopley (first u23 in his first race in club colours), Robert Blemings, Chris Small, Tanya S, Neil Barton, Sarah Glover (3rd lady first FV45), Andy Challinor and Marc Short. Coiners Fell Race - Mytholmroyd 6 May 2024 Four Fellandalers made it over to this race taking in Stoodley Pike from Mytholmroyd on the May Day Bank Holiday afternoon. In warm conditions Jordan Waters finished 18th overall, followed by the three ladies, Caroline Thomas (89th), Sophie Clark (103rd) and Louise O’Brien (107th) out of a field of 155 finishers. Dick Hudsons Fell Race - Ilkley 2 May 2024 A good number of club members toed the line among the 163 runners taking par tin this out and back race across Ilkley/Bingley Moors to the gate opposite Dick Hudsons pub and back. Pride of place goes to James Wynne, finishing second overall and being ably supported by Paul Heeley, Rhianna Fielden (10th female), Robert Blemings (in his first race in the club vest), Chris Small, Tanya Shepherd, Kat Fisk and Sarah Glover. Two new members, both running as unattached on the night, Dean Hird and Steven Boocock also had good races. Full results here

Yorkshire Vets (YVAA) Grand Prix 2024 Race 1 - Honley 28 April 2024 Five club members took part in this first race of the 2024 YVAA Grand Prix on a hilly multi-terrain route (5.9 miles/800ft approx) from Honley. New recruit Neil Wallace was first Fellandaler home, followed by Louise O’Brien, Alissa Howroyd. Wendy Critchley and Carl Prendergast (3rd MV75). Three Peaks Race 2024 - 27 April 2024 While the club was once again commended for providing a high number of marshals for this years 3 Peaks, including manning the Ribblehead checkpoint, Sean McQuinn was the only runner taking part, and in the chilly but dry conditions Sean had a good run with a new race PB of 4:06:40. London Marathon - 21 April 2024 James Wynne had an excellent run in this year’s London Marathon, finishing literally just a few seconds inside his predicted time of 2:35:00 despite getting cramp at around half-way.
Teenager With Altitude Fell Race - Newlands, Cumbria - 20 April 2024 Tanya Shepherd conquered this brutal beast of a race (15.3 miles/7546ft) finishing in a race PB of 4:25:39. Full results here
Burnsall Trail Half Marathon and 12km races - 20 April 2024 Three Fellandalers took part in these races on a glorious day in Wharfedale. Caroline Thomas completed the half marathon well up the field in 52nd place in a time of 2:08:37, while in the 12km Kat Fisk finished in 26th place (out of 92) in 1:15:59 with evergreen Carl Prendergast 50th in 1:28:32. Calderdale Hike - 13 April 2024 A big well done to Jordan Waters in finishing first in the 26 mile race by almost an hour, and to Sophie Clark, finishing 3rd female in the 16 mile race just 5 mins behind first female, at this year’s Calderdale Hike, a long-established event catering for walkers and runners and taking in much of the South Pennines Moors from Sowerby Bridge. Skipton Skedaddle 20 miles - 13 April 2024 After a bit of a break Emma Lavelle-Wood was back to what she does best and finishing first lady (7th overall) in this Punk Panther race from Skipton. Full results here
Eskdale Elevation Fell Race - 13 April 2024 Just two club members, Chris Small and Sean McQuinn, made the trip to the western Lakes for this latest ROTY race. Chris and Sean both conquered the poor conditions on the day (40mph winds and limited visibility) to be among the 75% of starters (42 finishers in a small field of 56)who finished the 12.6 miles 4774ft race taking in Scafell among other summits. Baildon Boundary Way Half Marathon - 7 April 2024 Marc Short took part in this year’s BBW Half, a multi-terrain race that has a bit of everything, particularly mud this year. Marc finished in 201st place in a time of 2:26:51. Full results here
Lads Leap Fell Race, Crowden - 6 April 2024 Tanya Shepherd was the club’s only runner at this English Championship ‘short’ race taking in 5.9 miles/1699ft of the hills to the west of the Pennine Way above Crowden. Tanya finished in 65th place in 1:15:00. Full results here
Pendle Hill Fell Race - 6 April 2024 Four club members made the trip over the border to Lancashire for this classic short race of 4.5 miles/1500ft, which takes you almost to the summit of Pendle Hill before dropping diagonally down to the bottom of the Big End where the near vertical climb back up to the summit commences before the fast descent back into Barley. James Wynne took a break from marathon training to finish 8th overall, 2nd senior male and 4th Lancastrian (the race was also this year’s Lancashire champs despite the clash with Lads Leap), James was followed by Jordan Waters (26th), Paul Heeley (30th) and Neil Barton (115th). Manx Mountain Marathon - 30 March 2024 A big well done to Jordan Waters on not only finishing 18th overall (out of a field of 123) in this 30.4mile/8600ft traverse of the Isle of Man, but also 5th non-local and 3rd first-timer. Jordan finished in a time of 6:16:39 with the second half of the race powered by Greggs sausage rolls. Full results here
Coledale Horseshoe Fell Race - 30 March 2024 Sarah Glover took part in this 8.5 mile/3502 ft medium classic Lakes race while holidaying locally. Sarah finished in a time of 2:23:42, quite a bit faster than when she walked the route earlier in the week! Full results here

Heptonstall Fell Race - 24 March 2024 With this race being one of the long counters in this year’s Runner of the Year competition there was a good turn-out of six club members tackling the 15.4 mile / 3169ft of steep wooded valleys, moorland and farmland surrounding Heptonstall, Having seemingly recovered from racing yesterday, Sean McQuinn led the way home in 49th place in 2:31:01, followed by Ed Smith (147th 3:08:12), Caroline Thomas (152nd 3:09:17), Marion Muir (189th 3:21:13), Louise O’Brien (194th 3:25:14) and Phil Hancock (218th 3:48:17). Forest Runner Dalby Forest 10km - 24 March 2024 Ian Service took part in this forest trail 10km race on Sunday, finishing in a time of 53:42. Full results here
We Need to Talk About Chevin Fell Race - 23 March 2024 Two Fellandalers took on this 9 miles/2130ft race organised by Great Owl Running, and having a particularly brutal first couple of miles on its tour of the best the Chevin/Danefield have to offer. Sean McQuinn finished an excellent 5th in 1:16:32 while Dave Campbell-Hemming enjoyed the race in a more ‘leisurely’ 1:48:46. Full results here.

Flower Scar Fell Race - Todmorden - 16 March 2024 Due to this 8.1 miles/2165ft race being the first counter in this year’s English Championships (as well as a club ROTY race), only Paul Heeley and Tanya Shepherd managed to get entries in before it was sold out. Both had good runs amongst the elite of English fellrunning, with Paul finishing 165th and Tanya 302nd (60th female in a PB time by 12 minutes) in a field of 374 finishers. Full results here

Haworth Hobble - 9 March 2024 A big well done to the three Fellandale ladies who successfully completed this 31.7 miles/5500ft ultra race over the South Pennine Moors from Haworth and taking in Stoodley Pike, Hardcastle Crags and many points in between. Louise O’Brien and Marion Muir ran together to finish in just under 6hrs 44mins, while Sally Hicks was also well up the field overall in 7hrs 14mins. All three were also well inside the top 20 in their respective age categories. Full results here

Ilkley Moor Fell Race - 3 March 2024 On a good day weather-wise, but with some tough underfoot conditions, eight club members were among the 264 runners that completed this year’s Ilkley Moor Fell Race (a category AS 5 miles 1316ft route across the best the moor can offer and also thius year’s Yorkshire Championships race). Alex Jones was first club finisher in 47th place, followed by Paul Heeley, Adrian Kennedy (making a welcome return to racing), Ed Smith, Chris Small, Andy Challinor, Dave Campbell-Hemming and lone lady Sarah Glover. Middlesbrough Half Marathon - 3 March 2024 As part of his build-up to the London Marathon next month, James Wynne finished an excellent 7th in 1hr 12mins in this race. As a fell running club we do not hold records of road times but this may well be the fastest half marathon by a club member, at least in the last 25 years or so.

David Bell Memorial Hoppits Hill Race (Lower Hopton) 25 February 2024 Big congratulations to James Wynne in going one better than last year’s second place with a fine win in this 4.85km/210 metres race in Nicky Spinks’ former ‘back garden’. James finished in a time of 2029. Full results along with links to photos from the race can be found here.
PECO XC 2023/24 Race 5 - Roundhay Park 25 February 2024 This season’s PECO league ended on Sunday at a muddy Roundhay Park. Despite some members being unavailable for varying reasons there were the usual great runs from club members, with Harry Kingston finishing an excellent 10th overall (out of 400), followed by Paul Heeley (97th) and evergreen Carl Prendergast (370th but more importantly first M75). Meanwhile Kat Fisk led home the ladies (who again put a full team out), finishing in 100th place (out of 278). Kat was followed by Caroline Thomas (113th), Sarah Glover (118th), Christine Addison (165th), Meisha Holliday (233rd) and Dianne Addison (237th). The PECO season is (almost) over. Well done to everyone who took part. Some special shout outs:
Carl Prendergast came 1st in his age category.
Harry Kingston came 8th overall.
Louise O'Brien, Christine Addison and Dianne Addison all finished top 10 in their age categories.
Christine took part in all 5 races and will be rewarded with some fine PECO merchandise.
Extra kudos to Meisha Holliday for making her club debut a PECO race!

Runners and Riders - Appletreewick - 4 February 2024 Despite this being the last Runner of the Year (ROTY) race from 2023/24 and also the first of the 2024/25 series, just three Fellandalers made it to this unique race where (as with Bingley Harriers’ Harriers v Cyclists race) the runners are pitted against cyclists. Despite the very windy conditions all three had good runs, with Paul Heeley 48th (4th MV45), Sarah Glover 135th (5th LV45) and evergreen Carl Prendergast 177th (2nd MV70). Full results here
Dewsbury 10km - 4 February 2024 Proving that some club members do race on the ‘dark side’ occasionally, Wendy Critchley had a good run in this very popular (2444 finishers), flat road race, finishing in a time of 53:15. Full results here
Wadsworth Trog (The Beast) - Old Town, Hebden Bridge - 3 February 2024 In the second of two local-ish long ‘bog-trots’ last weekend, three of the club’s ‘hardcore’ ladies conquered ‘the beast’ in this 19.4 miles/ 3400ft race. Tanya Shepherd finished an excellent 10th lady despite having a fall on the tarmac before the start, and was followed by Caroline Thomas (17th lady) and Louise O’Brien (20th). Full results here
Rombalds Stride - Guiseley - 3 February 2024 There was some great running from the Fellandale contingent in this early-season 23 mile race taking in Baildon and Rombalds Moors and Otley Chevin. Running in windy by bright conditions, Alex Jones finished an excellent 10th overall, backed up by Jordan Waters (22nd), Sean McQuinn (39th), Steph Solomon (116th and 3rd F-Senior) and Iain Service (in his longest ever run 189th). Meanwhile Ed Smith walked the event with his son, finishing inside the 9 hour mark. Full results here

PECO XC Race 4 - Middleton Park 28 January 2024 There was a smaller than usual turn out of just four ladies and two men at Sunday’s senior PECO races. but there were still some quality performances from Louise O’Brien, Sarah Glover, Alissa Howroyd and Christine Addison in the ladies race, and from second claimer Oliver Richards and Carl Prendergast (first V75) in the men’s race.
